How we teach children: Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0
This model guides our teaching practices, focusing on 4 core elements:
- Planning: carefully designing lessons.
- Enabling learning: creating a supportive environment.
- Explicit teaching: designed to manage the cognitive load of students as they learn new content and to clearly guide them through the learning process.
- Supported application: helping students practice and apply what they’ve learned.
Explicit teaching is central to this model. This research-backed method clearly explains new content in manageable steps, scaffolds learning, and provides regular feedback. This approach is particularly effective in managing students’ cognitive load, supporting their understanding, and building their confidence.
