Inquiry learning
Our Inquiry Learning program develops curious and critical thinkers and is guided by the Victorian Curriculum from Foundation to Level 6. It integrates various subjects and capabilities, including:
- Humanities
- Science
- Technologies
- Languages
- Capabilities to develop curious and critical thinkers.
Taught in a dedicated learning block, Inquiry encourages students to explore, investigate, and make connections across real-world concepts. This program often links with English to strengthen research, reading, and communication skills.
What children explore through Inquiry
Foundation – Level 2
Children explore personal history, their community, the environment, and basic scientific concepts, such as living things, materials, and movement. They also begin to engage with Design and Technologies, creating simple solutions.
Levels 3 – 4
Inquiry expands to include Australian history, Indigenous cultures, sustainability, and forces and energy. Children analyse data, explore Earth’s resources, and develop Digital Technologies skills.
Levels 5 – 6
Students investigate migration, democracy, global connections, financial literacy, and ecosystems. They apply scientific principles, engage in design thinking, and develop coding and computational skills.
Languages
Languages are embedded within Inquiry, allowing students to develop communication skills, intercultural understanding, and an appreciation for diverse cultures.
Capabilities
Across all levels, capabilities foster critical and creative thinking, ethical decision-making, and collaboration. Through Inquiry, students develop the skills to think deeply, communicate effectively, and apply their learning to the world around them.
